Hi Theo, Maha,

 

I would like to give you heads up that CSC are in the process of providing advice to Admin Re Group (ARG) on technology standards for the next 3 to 5 years, and they are looking at OCFS2. I would be grateful if you could help me answer  a few questions they requested: - 

 

1) Is there a roadmap for the OCFS2 product that is available to CSC (as a platinum partner) and ARG (if it's public information). The sort of information that they would like to know is: - 
                a) Does Oracle have a long term commitment to continued development of OCFS2? 
                b) What are the new features in development? 
                c) What operating systems / platforms are going to be supported by OCFS2 in the future? 
                d) Does v1.6 have an end of support date yet? 
        2) Is there a support roadmap for the OCFS2 v1.4 product? Specifically: - 
                a) Has any end of support date been announced? 
                b) Where bugs are discovered will patches be developed and made available? 
                c) Are any new versions going to be developed? 
                d) Are there any plans to stop creating versions for new RedHat Linux (RHEL) kernel versions? 
        3) Can you please provide me with the latest support information on OCFS2 v1.6? Specifically we need to know: - 
                a) Under what conditions it is and is not supported? 
                b) There appears to be several sources of information on different Oracle websites, but they appear to provide different information. What is the official source of support info for OCFS2? 

 

 

OCFS2 v1.4 continues to cause Admin Re issues and they are actively looking at alternatives. They have asked about OEL + OCFS2 v1.6, but unless we can give them assurances about support, stability and roadmaps it will not be a viable option.
