Joel,
thanks for clearing this up. We are now installing Oracle 11gR2 on
SLES 11 and are experiencing these
same concerns. I do have an additional question that you or
someone on this list can help me answer and
save me a few days of troubleshooting.
When I installed SLES11, I get kernel 2.6.27.19. I then did an
online update to get the most current updates. This
brought me to kernel 2.6.27.45-0.1-default x86_64.
Checking the oracleasm packages that come with the distro I see:
dbs1:~ # rpm -qa | grep oracle
oracleasm-kmp-default-2.0.5_2.6.27.19_5-7.6
oracleasm-2.0.5-7.6
dbs1:~ # uname -a
Linux dbs1 2.6.27.45-0.1-default
We've downloaded the 2 RPMs from oracle:
oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.SLE11.x86_64.rpm
oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.SLE11.x86_64.rpm
My question is should I be concerned about mismatched versions or
should this be expected to work?
We will push forward, but if anyone has done this before and can
foresee problems, I'd love to know about them.
thanks again.
