Wow, Michael, I didn't see this message so long ago, and I'm
sorry I never responded. Obviously, the packages have been updated for
a long time.

That will work fine. However, you certainly do not need to
remove the oracleasmlib and oracleasm-support packages. Also, if you
are just installing a new kernel, you can even leave the old kernel and
oracleasm driver installed.
