The exact process (when working) is that the log is written to a temp file, this file increases in size until the log is complete, then it is copied to an 'out' file and at this time the temp file is set back to 0kb, but the outfile contains the completed log.
This file is produced by an Oracle Concurrent Manger program and we are using 1.1GB of 120GB of space so it's not a space issue unfortunately.
