This seems a bit ugly to me, since it exposes the implementation of the 
list abstraction.  What about the following:

lock = NULL;
list_for_each_entry(x, tmpq, list) {
	if (x->ml.cookie == ml->cookie) {
	   	lock = x;
		break;
	}
}
