We are very pleased to announce the availability of Oracle NoSQL
Database Release 12c (12.1.3.2.5). Please forward this announcementwidely.
Oracle NoSQL Database 12.1.3.2.5 adds several new features including Big
Data SQL support and a RESTful API. We strongly recommend that users
upgrade to this release to take advantage of these new features. These
new features include:
* _Oracle Big Data SQL support_: Oracle NoSQL Database can be queried
using Oracle Big Data SQL enabling seamless, high performance
integration between relational and NoSQL data. The process for
connecting to the Oracle NoSQL Database from Oracle Big Data SQL is
described in section "6.4 Creating an Oracle External Table for
Oracle NoSQL Database" of theBDA 4.1 Software User's Guide
<http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/bigdata-appliance/documentation/index.html>.
* _New RESTful API:_The latest 3.0 release of the Oracle REST Data
Services adds support for Oracle NoSQL Database. This allows
customers to build a REST-based application that can access data in
either Oracle Database or Oracle NoSQL Database. The REST Data
Services product, documentation and downloads can be found_here
<http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/rest-data-services/ords-30-downloads-2373781.html>_.
* _New SQL-like DDL:_A new declarative data definition language and
API has been added to support creation and management of tables and
indexes. This allows customers to more easily manage table and index
creation from the CLI as well as programmatically from the
application. The language reference is described in_Data Definition
Language for Tables
<http://docs.oracle.com/cd/NOSQL/html/GettingStartedGuideTables/ddl_overview.html>_.
* _New C Table Driver:_A THRIFT-based (JNI-less) C API client driver
has been added, with support for NoSQL Database tables and indexes.
This allows NoSQL Database application developers to manage their
NoSQL Database tables and indexes in C. It is a separately
downloadable package on the same _NoSQL Database OTN download page
<http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/database-technologies/nosqldb/downloads/index.html>_.
It is available as source code and must be compiled, along with its
dependent libraries. Complete instructions are included the
distribution package.
* _More flexible MAP indexes_: NoSQL Database secondary indices have
been enhanced to support indexes on both the Key and Value of a MAP
data-type column. This is a unique feature that allows customers to
build highly dynamic, customizable indexes on application MAPs,
supporting a wide array of different application data models. This
new indexing capability is documented _here
<http://docs.oracle.com/cd/NOSQL/html/GettingStartedGuideTables/indexmaps.html>_.
* _Apache Hive support_: You can now query Oracle NoSQL Database from
Apache Hive, using HiveQL by creating a Hive External Table that
uses the oracle.kv.hadoop.hive.table.TableStorageHandler class. This
allows customers to improve the performance, scalability and
reliability of Hive-based applications by using Oracle NoSQL
Database as their non-relational database. Documentation on the
oracle.kv.hadoop.hive.table package can be found_here
<http://docs.oracle.com/cd/NOSQL/html/javadoc/oracle/kv/hadoop/hive/table/package-summary.html>_.
* _New Diagnostics utility_: Oracle NoSQL Database has added a utility
to make it easier to diagnose and troubleshoot issues, especially
within the context of a distributed database system. This will make
it easier for customers to gather information and work with Oracle
Support. The documentation for the new Diagnostics utility can be
found_here
<http://docs.oracle.com/cd/NOSQL/html/AdminGuide/diag_util.html>_.
