CVEs: CVE-2016-0758 CVE-2016-3713

Systems running Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial can now use Ksplice to patch
against the latest Ubuntu Security Notice, USN-2979-1.

INSTALLING THE UPDATES

We recommend that all users of Ksplice Uptrack on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial
install these updates.

On systems that have "autoinstall = yes" in /etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf,
these updates will be installed automatically and you do not need to
take any action.

Alternatively, you can install these updates by running:

# /usr/sbin/uptrack-upgrade -y

DESCRIPTION

* CVE-2016-0758: Privilege escalation in ASN.1 DER decoder.

A flaw in the ASN.1 DER decoder could allow a local, unprivileged user
to use a maliciously crafted X.509 certificate DER file to crash the
system or, potentially, escalate privileges.

* CVE-2016-3713: Privilege escalation in KVM MTRR emulation.

Incorrect validation of emulated MTRR MSRs can allow a guest VM to read
and write memory in the KVM host. This may allow a privileged guest to
gain code execution in the KVM host.
