Synopsis: USN-3290-1 can now be patched using Ksplice
CVEs: CVE-2016-8645 CVE-2017-8106

Systems running Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty can now use Ksplice to patch
against the latest Ubuntu Security Notice, USN-3290-1.

INSTALLING THE UPDATES

We recommend that all users of Ksplice Uptrack running Ubuntu 14.04
Trusty install these updates.

On systems that have "autoinstall = yes" in /etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf,
these updates will be installed automatically and you do not need to
take any action.

Alternatively, you can install these updates by running:

# /usr/sbin/uptrack-upgrade -y

DESCRIPTION

* Denial-of-service in block device reference counting.

A logic failure in the block cgroup handler can result in a module
reference count leak, preventing unload of block device modules. A local
attacker could use this flaw to cause a denial-of-service.

* CVE-2016-8645: Denial of service when receiving TCP packet.

When collapsing multiple socket buffers into one, a bug in the code
could result in kernel panic. A remote attacker can trigger this by
sending specially crafted packets and cause denial of service.

* CVE-2017-8106: Denial of service in KVM INVEPT instruction emulation.

A logic error when the KVM subsystem emulates the INVEPT instruction without a
matching VMPTRLD instruction can trigger a NULL pointer dereference and kernel
panic. A privileged user inside a guest VM could use this flaw to crash the KVM
host and cause a denial of service.
