CVEs: CVE-2016-7910 CVE-2016-7911

Systems running Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty can now use Ksplice to patch
against the latest Ubuntu kernel update, 3.13.0-109.156.

INSTALLING THE UPDATES

We recommend that all users of Ksplice Uptrack running Ubuntu 14.04
Trusty install these updates.

On systems that have "autoinstall = yes" in /etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf,
these updates will be installed automatically and you do not need to
take any action.

Alternatively, you can install these updates by running:

# /usr/sbin/uptrack-upgrade -y

DESCRIPTION

* CVE-2016-7910: Privilege escalation in /proc/partitions.

Incorrect cleanup when finishing reading /proc/partitions could result
in a use-after-free condition. A local, unprivileged user could use
this flaw to crash the system, or potentially, escalate privileges.

* CVE-2016-7911: Privilege escalation in ioprio_get().

A race condition in retrieving the task IO context in the ioprio_get()
system call could allow a local, unprivileged user to trigger a
use-after-free and cause a denial-of-service, or potentially, escalate
privileges.

* Denial-of-service when writing to huge pages of another process.

A missing check when writing to read-only regions of memory backed by
transparent huge pages cause an infinite loop. A local attacker could
use this flaw to cause a denial-of-service.

* Denial of service in Open vSwitch GRE packet processing.

A logic error when the Open vSwitch network driver processes Generic Routing
Encapsulation packets can trigger an assertion failure and kernel panic.
