Synopsis: ELSA-2017-3508 can now be patched using Ksplice
CVEs: CVE-2016-6828 CVE-2016-7042 CVE-2016-8655 CVE-2016-8666 CVE-2016-9793 CVE-2016-9794

Users with Oracle Linux Premier Support can now use Ksplice to patch
against the latest Oracle Linux Security Advisory, ELSA-2017-3508.

INSTALLING THE UPDATES

We recommend that all users of Ksplice Uptrack running UEKR4 4.1.12 on
OL6 and OL7 install these updates.

On systems that have "autoinstall = yes" in /etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf,
these updates will be installed automatically and you do not need to
take any action.

Alternatively, you can install these updates by running:

# /usr/sbin/uptrack-upgrade -y

DESCRIPTION

* CVE-2016-9793: Denial-of-service in socket configuration.

Incorrect validation of arguments for the setsockopt ioctl could allow
a local user with CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges to cause memory corruption
or crash the kernel.

* CVE-2016-9794: Denial-of-service when playing audio stream.

A missing lock when computing elapsed period of the playing stream
could lead to a use-after-free if the stream is released in a concurrent
thread. An attacker could use this flaw to cause a denial-of-service.

* Use after free in netlink dump interface.

Incorrect locking in the generic netlink interface can cause a use after
free and kernel panic when attempting to dump multiple interfaces
concurrently.

* CVE-2016-8655: Privilege escalation in af_packet implementation.

A race condition in af_packet processing could allow a local
unprivileged user to cause a kernel crash or execute arbitrary code
with elevated privileges.

* CVE-2016-6828: Use after free during TCP transmission.

A logic error when a memory allocation fails during TCP transmission can
cause the kernel TCP stack to use freed memory causing a kernel panic.

* CVE-2016-7042: Stack corruption when reading keys from proc filesystem.

An on-stack buffer is not big enough to hold the data being written to it
when reading keys from the proc filesystem, potentially leading to a kernel
panic when the stack protector is in use. A local, unprivileged user could
use this flaw to cause a denial-of-service.

* CVE-2016-8666: Remote denial-of-service in Generic Receive Offload.

Unbounded recursion with multiple layers of encapsulation could result
in kernel stack corruption when receiving packets using Generic Receive
Offload. A remote user could use this flaw to trigger a denial of
service, or potentially, gain code execution.

* Kernel crash in Intel XL710 Data Center Bridging change.

A race condition when configuring Data Center Bridging for an Intel
XL710 Ethernet device could result in a NULL pointer dereference and
kernel crash.
