Synopsis: ELSA-2013-2511 can now be patched using Ksplice
CVEs: CVE-2013-0268

Users with Oracle Linux Premier Support can now use Ksplice to patch
against the latest Oracle Security Advisory, ELSA-2013-2511.

INSTALLING THE UPDATES

We recommend that all users of Ksplice Uptrack on EL 6 install these
updates.

On systems that have "autoinstall = yes" in /etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf,
these updates will be installed automatically and you do not need to
take any action.

Alternatively, you can install these updates by running:

# /usr/sbin/uptrack-upgrade -y

DESCRIPTION

* Kernel crash in floppy module initialization and exit.

Incorrect handling of errors and incorrect reference counting could
result in a kernel crash when inserting or removing the floppy module.

* Stale data exposure in XFS with custom extent sizes.

A directory on an xfs filesystem with a custom extent size could allow
stale data to be leaked when writing files with holes in them.

* Kernel crash in paravirtualization lazy mode during interrupts.

A race condition between different paravirtualized lazy modes during
interrupt handling could result in a BUG_ON() and kernel crash.

* CVE-2013-0268: /dev/cpu/*/msr local privilege escalation.

Access to /dev/cpu/*/msr was protected only using filesystem
checks. A local uid 0 (root) user with all capabilities dropped
could use this flaw to execute arbitrary code in kernel mode.

SUPPORT

Ksplice support is available at ksplice-support_ww at oracle.com.
