Getting Started with Oracle Ksplice

Included in Oracle Linux Premier support, Oracle Ksplice delivers zero downtime updates for Oracle Linux. These updates are made available via the Oracle Ksplice Uptrack service for the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) only. Ksplice Uptrack enables customers to apply security and other critical fixes without rebooting. Zero downtime updates are available for the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux 5 and Oracle Linux 6 starting with kernel-uek-2.6.32-100.28.9.

The Oracle Ksplice Uptrack service requires a Ksplice access key. Users can obtain an access key using their Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN) account. ULN users that have a system registered with an Oracle Linux Premier Support CSI will be presented with a button to request an Oracle Ksplice access key for that Premier CSI. Upon requesting the Oracle Ksplice access key, the ULN user will receive a "Welcome to Ksplice Uptrack" email which will contain the access key along with a link on how to create an Oracle Ksplice Uptrack account. The Oracle Ksplice access key will also be listed next to the CSI in the Systems tab in ULN. Note that if you have a Premier Support for Systems CSI or a Premier Support for Operating Systems CSI, the access key you receive will only allow you to receive updates for Oracle Linux running the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel.

The Oracle Ksplice Uptrack service can then be installed on a system running Oracle Linux with the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel by using the access key received and the installation instructions avalilable here
