Hardware needed to setup a Firewire cluster ------------------------------------------------------- * A Firewire disk that supports multiple simultaneous logins. Disks with the Oxford 911 chipset are known to work. Typically there is a sticker on the box that says the Oxford 911 chipset is used. Other disks might work as well, but no guarantees, and it's not something usually listed on the box. * Two or more Firewire controllers. Cards with chipsets made by VIA or TI are known to work. The internal Firewire in Toshibas seems to work. PCMCIA cards made by SiS and Orange Micro are known to work. * 6-to-6 pin Firewire cables. Using 3 pin ones is not recommended. * If you want a setup with more than 2 nodes, get a Firewire hub, since typically disks only have two connectors on the back.
