[Ksplice][Ubuntu-20.10-Updates] New Ksplice updates for Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy (USN-4678-1)

Synopsis: USN-4678-1 can now be patched using Ksplice
CVEs: CVE-2020-12912 CVE-2020-29534

Systems running Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy can now use Ksplice to patch
against the latest Ubuntu Security Notice, USN-4678-1.

INSTALLING THE UPDATES

We recommend that all users of Ksplice Uptrack running Ubuntu 20.10
Groovy install these updates.

On systems that have "autoinstall = yes" in /etc/uptrack/uptrack.conf,
these updates will be installed automatically and you do not need to
take any action.

Alternatively, you can install these updates by running:

# /usr/sbin/uptrack-upgrade -y


DESCRIPTION

* CVE-2020-12912: Information leak in AMD RAPL MSR based Energy driver.

Wrong permissions on a sysfs file in AMD RAPL MSR based Energy driver
could let a local attacker use Running Average Power Limit (RAPL)
feature of AMD processors to leak sensitive informations about running
kernel via side-channel attack.


* Note: Oracle will not provide a zero-downtime update for CVE-2020-29534.

Oracle has determined that patching CVE-2020-29534 on a running system
would not be safe and recommends to reboot if you are affected. The
vulnerability can be leveraged by an unprivileged user using the io_uring
subsystem to to expose sensitive information or possibly escalate
privileges.
