did you install the AS3 kernel off the firewire download page?
should be a variant of: kernel-2.4.21-9.ELorafw3

I am using 2 Dell Optiplex GX270's with AS3.  I installed
kernel-unsupported, then 
modprobe's ohci1394 and then sbp2.  When I dmesg, I see the following
error.  
I know drive is OK, because I can format and copy files to it from a W2k
box.
