a quick update

Last week I landed some code which got symlinks and mmap going, sort of,
so that linux kernel builds can be done.  It's still a little flakey,
but it's in and you can play with it.

I think I'm going to work on hardening the client item managing code a
little before getting the coherency protocol stuff in.  The client item
managing code has problems dealing with things like dirents which hash
to the same key.
