Product Release Overview:
Berkeley DB 5.2.28 is a major new revision of Berkeley DB with many new features, enhancements and bug fixes including:
* SQL API
        Added ADO.NET driver download bundle and support.
        Enabled MVCC (Multi-version concurrent control) via PRAGMAs. Provides additional concurrency for the SQL API.
        Enabled HA/Replication via PRAGMAs. BDB replication can now be enabled directly from SQL, including getting HA statistics.
        Enabled Sequences via custom SQLite functions. Provide transactionally protected sequence number generation for the SQL API.
        Enabled System Shared Memory configuration via PRAGMAs. Reduced on-disk footprint for shared memory regions.
        Added tuning PRAGMAs for auto_vacuum.
        Added SQLite BEGIN EXCLUSIVE TRANSACTION behavior.
        Improved application crash recovery.
        Improved SQL API documentation and examples.
        </tt>Integrated SQLite library version 3.7.6.2
<tt>* Key-value API
        Added HEAP access method. Data storage optimized for </tt><tt><tt>constrained </tt></tt><tt>disk-space applications.
        Added X/open compliant XA resource manager. Documented how to integrate with Oracle Tuxedo transaction manager.
* Replication
        Added Dynamic Group Membership tracking to the Replication Manager.
        Added ability to pass messages between master and replicas using the existing HA communication channels.
* Performance
        Reduced QUEUE access method locking contention. Up to 2-3X better throughput for highly concurrent multi-threaded applications.
        Enabled Trickle Writes via PRAGMAs in SQL API. Benefits for multi-threaded high write workloads.
        Modified system resource memory allocation, allowing objects to share memory regions and defer memory allocation until needed.
        Improved B-tree index performance for indexes with very large keys.
        Improved HA performance when using Master Leases.
* Etc.
        Added support for partial record get/put in C# API.
        Added “db_tuner” utility to recommend optimal B-tree page size.
        Added 32 & 64-bit compatibility mode for Windows shared environments.
Consult the change log for the complete list of changes.
