Product Release Overview:
Berkeley DB 5.1.19 is a major new revision of Berkeley DB with many new features, enhancements and bug fixes including:
* SQL API
Enabled SQLite Online Backup command
Enabled VACUUM command, But with BDB it's concurrent
Enabled SQLite Encryption Extension Same SQLite APIs, but uses BDB AES encryption which can run in hardware when Intel encryption libraries are available (SQLite has optional paid-for encryption library extension)
We provide instructions for using an ADO.NET driver for Windows
Enable exclusive transactions
Various performance improvements (Delete all, Index insert, Key lookups during join operations)
Add .stat command to shell, enabling table and memory statistics display
Add Binary file (BFILE) management API extensions
Enable a file per table storage option
Enable a single home directory for share resources among multiple databases
Support for SQLite Write-Ahead Logging configuration
Integrated SQLite library version 3.7.1.1
* Platforms
iPhone platform support in addition to Android (added last release cycle)
* Replication
Added db_replicate command line utility so now non-HA applications can quickly become HA/replicated applications with no new code, this includes SQL applications
Enable HA configuration in DB_CONFIG configuration file
HA transactions acknowledgment improvements
* Performance
Add Bulk INSERT and DELETE to C# API
Add Bulk Transactional Inserts flag to improve recoverable bulk insert operations (5-10% performance)
Improve cursor lookup performance for multiple random lookups (% improvement depends on the query)
* Etc.
Refined and extended support for Solaris Dtrace and Linux SystemTap to report on BDB internal events
Enable DB_PRIVATE in DB_CONFIG configuration file
